Nick Dean - OCG Ambassador
It was only two years ago that Nick Dean discovered cycling. His journey from 400+lbs to triathlete led him to the roads as part of his overall training. Soon cycling became more than that. It became freedom.
"To clear my head, to give myself a chance to slow down and think. I think with all of my training it's really a time for me to get inside my head and put things in order. To feel the wind and smell the trees."
"I like being able to see the landscape from a different perspective. You miss so much when you are driving in a car."
This year, Nick set his goal to be more consistent and improve his racing times. And who knows? Maybe even ride a half-century in one ride! The motivation comes from his family and his work with kids with disabilities. Watching his two boys on the Autism Spectrum and students with down syndrome try new things and that light glow in their eyes has been a great motivation.
Chris Nikic, the first man with down syndrome to start and finish a full-length Iron Man race, is also his biggest inspiration. Like Chris, Nick follows a mantra of keep moving forward. ‘This is so true in cycling. You have to keep moving forward on not just the flats, but hills as well.’
We’ll help Nick get kitted out for his next adventures. So ride alongside us on this amazing journey!
